위기관리의 정석은 ‘의사결정’과 ‘의사소통’

정부나 기업이 위기관리를 할 때에는 두 가지 ‘의사(意思)’가 필요하다. 하나는 사태 관리를 위한 적절한 의사결정(decision-making)을 내리는 것이고, 또 하나는 자신들의 결정에 대해 내·외부 관련자들과 제대로 의사소통(communication)하는 것이다. 예를 들어 화재라는 위기를 맞아 정부나 기업이 위기관리를 할 때 신경 써야 할 2가지는 다음과 같다. 첫째는 소방관이 제대로 된 의사결정을 통해 화재를 진압하는 것이다. 둘째는 화재의 원인 및 진압 과정, 사후 조치 등에 대해 국민이나 소비자들과 제대로 의사소통을 하는 것이다. 스마트한 조직은 위기 사태 초기에 2가지 질문을 던진다. ‘어떤 조치를 취할 것인가.’ ‘우리의 조치를 어떻게 커뮤니케이션 할 것인가.
