MRI, CT, and X-rays now stored seamlessly in smartphone cloud… First rollout starts today at Dongguk University Ilsan Hospital
Built on an infrastructure of 13 million app users, expected to form an integrated ecosystem linking medical AI and digital therapeutics
The era of “patient-centered medical MyData,” in which patients proactively manage and utilize their own medical data, is fully underway. Following medical records and health checkup results, even large-volume medical images stored on CDs—long regarded as a major challenge for digital transformation—can now be linked to smartphones, accelerating the establishment of a patient-centric, personalized healthcare ecosystem.
Lemon Healthcare announced that it has commercialized “MyScanView,” a mobile medical imaging service that allows medical images such as MRI, CT, and X-ray scans to be issued, stored, and shared via smartphone. The company stated that the service will be operated for actual patients starting today (3rd) at Dongguk University Ilsan Hospital, the first hospital to adopt it.
Previously, patients who needed medical images for submission to other hospitals had to visit the hospital in person to receive them in CD or DVD format. As a result, patients with severe mobility issues or those living in provincial areas faced the burden of long-distance travel, waiting times, and transportation costs, and in some cases, identical tests were repeated because images had not been prepared in advance. Even where hospitals offered online application services, final collection was often in CD format, requiring in-person visits or postal delivery. While the government has also been promoting digital transformation through pilot projects based on medical information exchange systems, MyScanView implements this transition in the form of a commercial mobile service that patients can experience directly.
When using the service, patients can request their images via mobile and store them in a cloud-based personal repository. Stored images can be sent and shared with other institutions via a secure URL, and web viewer access and download functions are also provided, which is expected to significantly reduce inconvenience related to repeat hospital visits or loss of CDs. Hospitals can also improve operational efficiency by automating the manual approval tasks previously handled by PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) departments and rapidly transmitting large-volume images. In particular, the service is integrated with systems from major domestic PACS companies such as Infinitt Healthcare and Medical Standard, enabling hospitals to adopt it efficiently without having to drastically modify their existing core infrastructure.
Medical images are designed to be linked with patients’ PHRs (Personal Health Records) so they can be managed in an integrated manner alongside various types of medical information. Based on this, Lemon Healthcare plans to pursue linkage with medical AI, precision medicine, digital therapeutics, and data trading platforms. As medical images are based on DICOM, the international standard format, the company has also taken thorough measures to ensure interoperability between institutions and to establish robust security systems.
Hong Byung-jin, CEO of Lemon Healthcare, said, “MyScanView is a service that helps patients utilize medical images freely whenever they need them,” adding, “Starting with Dongguk University Ilsan Hospital, we will expand the number of participating hospitals to create a care environment without medical imaging CDs, and grow into a real-time, bidirectional medical data mediation platform company linked with medical AI and the data industry.”
Meanwhile, Lemon Healthcare is a smart hospital platform company connected with major tertiary and general hospitals nationwide, including Seoul National University Hospital and Severance Hospital. Its patient app “LemonCare” has surpassed 13 million cumulative downloads, and the company has recently been responsible for building and operating the Insurance Development Institute’s “Silsun 24” infrastructure, continuing to expand a patient-centered medical data ecosystem based on medical data mediation infrastructure.
