New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, who visited Korea to attend the APEC Summit, visited the East Busan Tourism Complex in Gijang-gun, Busan, and met with representatives of the New Zealand health functional food brand New Image Korea to discuss strengthening cooperation between the two countries. This visit was to commemorate the elevation of the 'Comprehensive Strategic Partnership' between New Zealand and Korea and to expand economic cooperation between companies in both countries, focusing on the health and wellness industry.
The event was attended by New Zealand's leading health and food companies, including New Image, Zespri, Comvita, and Fonterra, who pledged to strengthen ongoing cooperation. Additionally, Skyline Luge, GS Retail, and Lotte World Adventure signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for cooperation in attracting tourists, affirming their commitment to the development of the tourism industry in both countries.
Prime Minister Luxon stated at the site, "New Zealand and South Korea will become closer by combining each other's strengths through health, wellness, tourism, and cultural exchanges," and expressed hope that "companies from both countries will lead sustainable growth together."
On this day, Prime Minister Luxon met with Park Yong-jae, CEO of the Korean branch of New Zealand's leading health functional food brand 'New Image International', and top-level leaders to encourage achievements in the Korean market and share future growth visions.
New Image, a leading New Zealand health brand with over 40 years of history and scientific colostrum research technology, currently offers eight health functional foods and cosmetics in the Korean market, including the triple-functional product 'Lifeline' for multivitamins, minerals, and gut health.
CEO Park Yong-jae stated, "Korea is the fastest-growing market for health trends in the world," and added, "We are delivering the value of a healthier life to Korean consumers based on New Zealand's pure ingredients and scientific technology."
In response, Prime Minister Luxon remarked, "New Image is one of New Zealand's proud innovative companies, and its successful establishment in Korea is an excellent example of cooperation between the two countries," and added, "The growth of such companies will further solidify the partnership between our countries."
Through this visit, the East Busan Tourism Complex has been highlighted as an eco-friendly tourism hub created together with major New Zealand companies and large Korean distribution and tourism companies, and the expansion of exchanges in the health and wellness industry, including New Image Korea, has been evaluated as a new economic cooperation model between the two countries.
After his schedule, Prime Minister Luxon visited the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Busan to pay tribute to New Zealand soldiers who died in the Korean War, emphasizing, "The history and sacrifices we shared are leading to today's cooperation," and stated, "The partnership between the two countries will expand deeper and wider."
