OpenAI has enabled the direct use of various apps within ChatGPT, including hotel booking platforms, music streaming, and real estate searches. Previously, OpenAI introduced an 'instant payment' feature that allows products to be purchased directly from the ChatGPT chat window. There is a forecast that ChatGPT will be monetized as a so-called 'super app' that handles all tasks internally.
On the 6th (local time), OpenAI announced at the annual developer conference 'Dev Day 2025' in San Francisco, USA, that it would introduce a feature allowing direct connection to third-party apps within ChatGPT. Users can call and work with other apps within ChatGPT without leaving the interface. ChatGPT and other apps are connected through the app software development kit (SDK) released by OpenAI on the same day.
Services available in ChatGPT include hotel booking platforms Booking.com and Expedia, music streaming service Spotify, U.S. real estate platform Zillow, online course platform Coursera, and design platforms Canva and Figma.
For example, if a user tells ChatGPT, "Find a hotel in Paris, France, for two adults from the 21st to the 24th of next month on Booking.com. It should have parking," ChatGPT will immediately display Booking.com's Paris hotel search results and a booking button. Additionally, if a user requests, "Spotify, play the latest songs from my favorite artists that I haven't heard yet," they can view Spotify's music list within ChatGPT.
OpenAI announced plans to integrate 11 additional services by the end of the year, including Uber (ride-sharing service), DoorDash (food delivery), OpenTable (restaurant reservations), Target (shopping), and TripAdvisor (travel platform).
The industry views OpenAI's efforts as an attempt to develop ChatGPT into a super app. A super app provides various services within a single app, increasing convenience, preventing user attrition, expanding the platform, and enhancing profitability. The commerce business is a field where another revenue source can be quickly secured beyond ChatGPT subscription fees. On the 29th of last month (local time), OpenAI launched an instant payment feature that allows payments to be made directly within ChatGPT without moving to external sites and announced that it would charge fees for such transactions.
The IT specialty magazine TechCrunch evaluated, "OpenAI now has all the elements for AI-based commerce," and stated, "ChatGPT has established itself as a platform where buying and selling occur."
Meanwhile, on the same day, OpenAI announced that it had signed a contract with U.S. semiconductor company AMD to purchase AI chips with a capacity of 6GW (gigawatts). Under this contract, AMD will supply hundreds of thousands of GPU chips to OpenAI over several years starting in the second half of next year. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, stated, "If there is enough computing power to support it, (OpenAI's) revenue will grow rapidly."
