Hyundai Engineering has won a major gas processing facility project in Kazakhstan, marking its first entry into the local petrochemical plant market.
Hyundai Engineering announced on the 8th that it had received a Letter of Award (LOA) for the “Karachaganak Gas Processing Facility Project” from QazaqGaz, Kazakhstan’s state-owned gas company.
The project involves constructing facilities to process feed gas produced in the Karachaganak region of Kazakhstan. The annual gas processing capacity will be approximately 5 billion ㎥. Feed gas refers to natural gas in which impurities such as sulfur and moisture have not yet been removed.
Hyundai Engineering is scheduled to carry out EPC work, including engineering, procurement, and construction, for the project. The local subsidiary of SICIM, an EPC company headquartered in Italy, will participate as a construction consortium partner. SICIM has carried out pipeline and energy projects in Central Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas.
With this contract, Hyundai Engineering will now be executing projects in three key Central Asian countries—Kazakhstan, in addition to Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
Hyundai Engineering has previously undertaken large-scale projects such as gas processing facilities and petrochemical plants in Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. It is assessed that the local project experience, gas processing technologies, and process management capabilities built up through these projects contributed to securing this latest contract.
A Hyundai Engineering official stated, “Through this contract, the company’s capabilities and technological prowess in executing gas processing plant projects have once again been validated in overseas markets,” adding, “Based on the experience accumulated in CIS countries, we will carry out the project in a stable manner and further strengthen our competitiveness in the global plant business.”
