Samsung SDS is partnering with OpenAI to support Korean companies’ artificial intelligence transformation (AX).
On the 23rd, Samsung SDS announced that it had “signed a reseller partnership agreement to supply and manage ‘ChatGPT Enterprise,’ the enterprise version of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, for the first time among Korean companies.” This is a tangible outcome that came just two months after Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman met in October to discuss cooperation.
According to Samsung SDS, ChatGPT Enterprise, which OpenAI has launched for corporate customers, provides enhanced performance, capacity, and functionality compared with the personal version of ChatGPT. With high security and customization options, it is evaluated as suitable for companies seeking to connect external artificial intelligence (AI) to their existing internal systems.
Under this agreement, Samsung SDS will handle the entire process from consulting to deployment and operation so that corporate customers seeking AX can directly connect and use ChatGPT with their existing business systems. While companies can use ChatGPT Enterprise directly, adopting ChatGPT Enterprise through Samsung SDS allows them to introduce ChatGPT optimized to their internal systems without complex development processes.
Samsung SDS is already providing its proprietary generative AI platform “FABRiX” to industries requiring high levels of security, such as the public sector, finance, and manufacturing. The company plans to further strengthen its competitiveness in the AI business by combining the know-how accumulated in these sectors with OpenAI’s technological capabilities going forward.
Kim Kyung-hoon, General Manager of OpenAI Korea, stated, “One of OpenAI Korea’s goals is to support the AI transformation of Korean companies,” adding, “We expect that the reseller agreement with Samsung SDS will enable us to expand enterprise OpenAI services to more Korean companies.” Lee Ho-joon, Head of the Cloud Services Business Unit at Samsung SDS, said, “We plan to supply ChatGPT Enterprise to companies across a wide range of industries.”
Previously, on 1 October, Chairman Lee and CEO Altman signed a “Letter of Intent (LOI) for Mutual Cooperation to Build Global Core AI Infrastructure.” At that time, the Samsung affiliates that signed the LOI with OpenAI were Samsung Electronics, Samsung SDS, Samsung C&T, and Samsung Heavy Industries, and Samsung explained that the group plans to establish a comprehensive cooperation framework with OpenAI in each company’s core areas, including semiconductors, data centers, cloud, and marine technologies.
In particular, Samsung SDS agreed to cooperate in the design, construction, and operation of AI data centers for OpenAI’s “Stargate Project.” The Stargate Project is an initiative in which OpenAI and leading global technology and investment companies will invest about USD 500 billion (approximately KRW 742 trillion) to build AI infrastructure, including supercomputers and data centers. Samsung SDS stated, “Starting with our collaboration with OpenAI, we will expand AI business opportunities and play a key role in elevating the Republic of Korea into one of the world’s top three AI powerhouses.”
