Questions about ‘marketer’ as brain teasers
1. Do you think it is important for mar-keters to understand their competitors? Why?
2. What do you think marketers should understand the business environment?

Dialog
A: Hey, what are you working on?
B: I’m working on the new marketing plan for our new product we’re preparing to launch.
A: Oh yeah, I heard about the new product. Do you think it’ll be a success? Are your team members confident about it?
B: Well, we’re pretty confident about the product itself. We’re just a little concerned about our capabilities to penetrate into the market.
A: Yes, I think it’s very important that marketers understand the company’s capabilities so that we don’t create a marketing plan that will be unsuccessful, for example, due to lack of company resources.
B: I totally agree. We certainly don’t want that to happen.

* work on (something): (무엇인가를) 열심히 만들거나 고치다, concerned about (something): (무엇인가에) 대해 근심 또는 걱정하는, penetrate into the market: 시장을 뚫다

1. Income is a part of a consumer’s demographics, and influences consumer behavior just like age and gender. The higher someone’s income, the greater their ability, and most likely their willingness, to pay higher prices for products. Alternatively, even if a consumer really wants a product, if he has a lower income, he might not be able to afford a certain product.

2. Human feelings, opinions, and lifestyles are often referred to as psychographics, and can definitely influence consumer behavior. For example, a friend’s opinions can be a kind of peer pressure on a consumer to buy certain types of products. Consumers might also buy a product for no other reason than the fact that it makes them feel good about themselves.

CEO ENGLISH

CEO 1: Before moving to the substance of my remarks may I thank you for your kind words regarding my planned retirement next year. you know, I suggested this time scale with the clear intention of first completing our strategic restructuring program. …
Over the seven years, we have pursued a consistent, but steadily evolving, strategy designed to …

Before moving to the substance of my remarks…

다음은 …may I thank you for your kind words regarding my planned retirement next year다. ‘…

Police are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry가 아주 좋은 표현이다.

We are now making persistent, but steadily evolving, effort to achieve the planned goals.
