Daewoo Engineering & Construction announced on the 20th that Chairman Jeong Won-ju met with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to discuss cooperation on new development projects with the Thai government. The meeting explored the potential entry of the 'K-City', a Korean Wave-based mixed-use development model, into Thailand and discussed ways to expand cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting held at the Thai Government House on the 18th, Chairman Jeong stated, "With 52 years of construction experience and the success of the Starlake City development in Vietnam, Daewoo E&C hopes to collaborate with local companies in Thailand to fulfill the role of a master developer." He further explained, "The K-City concept, which integrates various industries such as K-pop concert venues, K-beauty, K-food, and K-clinics into development projects, can create a synergy effect by expanding Korean companies' investments and revitalizing the local economy."
He particularly emphasized, "Concentrating related industries around a K-Culture performance arena can induce additional foreign investment, achieving double or triple investment effects."
In response, Prime Minister Anutin stated, "As Korean companies actively invest in Vietnam, I hope Daewoo E&C will also take an interest in investing in Thailand," adding, "We will consider various cooperation measures, including providing incentives."
Chairman Jeong remarked, "Taking this meeting as an opportunity, we aim to expand our cooperative relationship with Thailand and identify projects that can make a substantial contribution to the local economy."
Based on its experience with the Starlake City project in Hanoi, Vietnam, which encompasses residential, commercial, and administrative functions, Daewoo E&C plans to expand the K-City model into the Southeast Asian market, including Thailand.
A Daewoo E&C representative stated, "Through Chairman Jeong Won-ju's meeting with the Thai Prime Minister, we were able to convey the company's development capabilities and long-term vision to the local government," adding, "We will pursue entry into the Thai market based on mixed-use development projects utilizing K-Culture as the core content."
