Samsung Biologics is accelerating its strategy to penetrate Japan and the broader Asia-Pacific (APAC) market by leveraging its flexible “end-to-end” contract development and manufacturing (CDMO) services that can respond to pharmaceutical demand, along with a wide range of new modality capabilities.
Samsung Biologics announced on 7 October that it participated in “BIO JAPAN 2026,” the largest pharmaceutical and biotechnology exhibition in Asia. On the opening day of the event, the company held a seminar under the theme of “Integrated CDMO services and optimization of antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) conjugation processes based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD).” Around 200 industry representatives attended the seminar and were said to have shown strong interest in Samsung Biologics’ business competitiveness.
Through the seminar, Samsung Biologics presented its vision to strengthen its leadership in the APAC market based on its solid business competitiveness.
BioJapan, held this year at the Pacifico Yokohama convention center, is Asia’s largest pharmaceutical and biotechnology technology exhibition. Hosted by the Japan Bioindustry Association, the exhibition began in 1986 and is expected to attract more than 22,000 visitors this year. Samsung Biologics has participated for four consecutive years since 2023. In addition to the seminar, the company has been operating a dedicated booth to expand customer contact points and carry out order-winning activities.

James Choi, Executive Vice President and Head of Business Support at Samsung Biologics, who delivered the presentation, said, “As development of new modalities such as ADCs and peptides in Japan becomes more active, demand related to CDMO services is surging,” adding, “We will respond to rapidly changing customer needs not only by diversifying our service portfolio through the build-up of capabilities across various modalities, but also by providing end-to-end services that encompass contract research (CRO), contract development (CDO), and contract manufacturing (CMO).”
In addition to its core modality of antibody therapeutics, Samsung Biologics has built a diverse business portfolio that includes messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) and ADCs. Furthermore, through the establishment of its third bio campus in Songdo, the company is building a multi-modality plant while also planning to fully enter the peptide market through the acquisition of Polypeptide Group, a global peptide CDMO.
Executive Vice President Choi also presented Samsung Biologics’ business achievements in the Japanese market. He noted that since opening its Tokyo sales office in 2025, the company has expanded its local presence and is conducting projects with numerous clients, including Japan’s top 10 pharmaceutical companies. Following Choi, Younjung Choi, Professional at the New Modality Group, disclosed process technologies that utilize advanced CFD to maintain consistent quality even when scaling up ADC production, thereby underscoring Samsung Biologics’ high-quality manufacturing capabilities.

ADCs are a modality that attacks cancer cells identified by antibodies using a drug payload. The mixing process, which ensures that the antibody and drug conjugate and dissociate as intended, is essential for high-quality drug production. Therefore, when scaling up from small-scale to large-scale commercial production, the mixing environment must remain uniform.
Professional Choi said, “Using CFD technology, which analyzes fluid flow, heat transfer, and mass transfer through simulations, we predicted possible changes in the mixing environment,” adding, “We confirmed that consistent ADC production quality can be maintained even when scaling up production.”
Meanwhile, following BIO JAPAN 2026, Samsung Biologics will successively participate in domestic and overseas bio events, including “CPHI Milan 2026,” a specialized pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry exhibition to be held in Europe, “World ADC San Diego” in the United States, and “BioPlux-Interphex Korea 2026 (BIX 2026)” in Korea. CPHI Milan 2026 will take place in Milan, Italy, from 6 to 8 October (local time), and World ADC San Diego, a conference in the ADC field, will be held from 12 to 15 October. BIX 2026, a domestic pharmaceutical and bio convention, will be held at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul, from 28 to 30 October.
