Automatic control of air conditioning, lighting, and ventilation… Maximizing energy savings
Samsung C&T-CVnet joint patent application, leading smart residential environments
Samsung C&T's construction division has introduced an innovative solution to preemptively prevent the chronic issue of the 'electricity bill surge' during summer and winter in apartment living, once again suggesting the evolution direction as a Home-Tech platform.
Samsung C&T announced on the 6th that it has developed the 'HomeNiq AI Energy Saving Mode' (Energy Saving AI), which analyzes power consumption patterns per household and predicts usage to automatically control devices. This service will be applied for the first time by a domestic construction company, starting with the Raemian One Perla complex in Bangbae 6 District.
The core of the newly introduced 'HomeNiq AI Energy Saving Mode' lies in its customized AI algorithm for each household. This service advances from the existing method of merely displaying power usage to analyzing power usage patterns in real-time and accurately predicting future usage. The most notable feature is that it provides advance notifications to residents through the 'HomeNiq app' if entry into a progressive rate section, where electricity bills surge, is anticipated.
This completely changes the existing practice where residents only realize the high charges after receiving the electricity bill. Residents can easily activate the 'saving mode' through the app as soon as they receive the notification.
Energy saving is possible through the HomeNiq app and wall pad with the AI Energy Saving Mode.
When the saving mode is activated, the system automatically controls major power-consuming devices like air conditioners, lighting, and ventilation equipment through the household's wall pad, according to the optimal mode preset by the residents. The system is controlled by methods such as adjusting the desired temperature of the air conditioner by 1-2 degrees or automatically adjusting the brightness of unnecessary lights.
This automatic control solution is expected to not only drastically reduce unnecessary energy consumption but also provide users with substantial cost-saving effects.
Additionally, Samsung C&T is focusing on securing technology by jointly filing a patent for this technology with CVnet. It is noted as the first case in the country where a construction company has applied an AI energy-saving algorithm to an apartment app service.
Ji So-young, an executive director at Samsung C&T, explained, “This service was developed in response to the reality where cases of experiencing 'electricity bill surges' repeat due to increased power usage for cooling in summer and heating in winter.” She added, “Through a saving solution that combines real-time AI analysis and prediction of consumption data per household with advance notifications and AI automatic control, residents can actively manage seasonal billing risks in their daily lives.”
She continued, “The customized energy-saving solution for each household not only reduces the burden of electricity bills for residents but is also being developed into a national AI service platform that aligns with the national AI transformation policy.”
Meanwhile, the 'AI Energy Saving Mode' is evaluated as an example that well demonstrates the core values and platform direction of HomeNiq, which aims for 'Change Better' beyond simple energy management functions. Besides the AI Energy Saving Mode, Samsung C&T is expanding services in various ways to develop HomeNiq into a 'Home-Tech Platform,' enhancing the quality of life through technology.
