Samsung Electronics' latest foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7, have received top scores in quality satisfaction evaluations from major consumer unions in the United States and Europe. Samsung plans to unveil a "Tri-Fold" product, which folds twice, this month and release it to the market by the end of the year.


According to industry sources on the 8th, consumer unions from five countries, including Consumer Reports in the U.S., Which? in the UK, Altroconsumo in Italy, Deco Proteste in Portugal, and Test-Achats in Belgium, have selected the Galaxy Fold7 and Flip7 as the best foldable phones in their respective countries. The evaluation was based on various criteria, including device performance, display, durability, and software update support.

Consumer Reports in the U.S. awarded the Fold7 and Flip7 scores of 81 each, marking them as top-rated. The Fold7 received perfect scores for its large display with excellent outdoor readability, improved durability, and AI-based camera performance. The Flip7 was praised for its maximized portability, featuring an excellent camera and battery.

Which? in the UK evaluated nine categories, including performance, battery life, image quality, and durability, giving the Fold7 a score of 77, ranking it alongside Motorola's Razr 60 Ultra as a top-tier product. The Flip7 received a score of 76, placing it third. Notably, the previous models, Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6, were ranked highly in evaluations by consumer magazines in Italy, Portugal, and Belgium, despite not being the latest models, proving their technological prowess.

Samsung Electronics plans to launch a new form factor, the "Tri-Fold," which folds twice, leveraging its leading foldable technology by the end of the year. The Tri-Fold adds an additional hinge to the existing foldable phone, allowing it to fold twice. When folded on both sides, it is the size of a regular smartphone, but when fully opened, it becomes as large as a tablet PC.


According to industry sources, Samsung Electronics plans to unveil the Tri-Fold smartphone for the first time at the exhibition space of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit at the end of this month. The industry expects Samsung to officially launch this product in the market as early as November. Samsung Electronics stated at the Galaxy Unpacked event in July, "We will introduce (the Tri-Fold product) within the year."

Although China's Huawei unveiled its Tri-Fold smartphone, the "Mate XT," ahead of Samsung, Samsung Electronics believes that it can demonstrate the technological gap through the new product launch. The Mate XT adopts an "in-out folding" method, where the device folds in a Z shape. In contrast, Samsung's Tri-Fold smartphone is expected to use a "dual in-folding" method, with both side displays folding inward around the main screen. The dual in-folding method offers durability but results in increased thickness. How Samsung's new product overcomes this technically will be crucial.
