LIG Defense and Aerospace (LIG D&A) announced on the 29th that it had discussed defense cooperation measures with Croatia, including the establishment of a multi-layered air defense network.
According to LIG D&A, Croatia’s Minister of Economy Ante Šušnjar visited the company’s research and development (R&D) center in Pangyo, Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, on the 28th. The visit was arranged to review Korea’s air defense system technologies and discuss potential cooperation between defense companies of the two countries.
LIG D&A presented to the Croatian side its multi-layered air defense network solution capable of responding from low altitude to high altitude. A multi-layered air defense network is a method of responding to threats by linking different air defense weapon systems according to the flight altitude and threat type of enemy aircraft or missiles.
The company explained the possibility of supplying an air defense system tailored to Croatia’s security environment and of engaging in technological cooperation with local companies.
Minister Šušnjar noted that Croatian defense companies are developing advanced technologies such as military communication networks and unmanned systems, and proposed the possibility of pursuing joint projects.
Minister Šušnjar said, “The capabilities of Croatian companies can serve as a foundation for new joint projects,” adding, “Such cooperation is expected to contribute to the development of our domestic industry and manufacturing sector and to the creation of new export opportunities.”
Baek Hyeong-sik, Head of Overseas Business at LIG D&A, said, “We expect LIG’s multi-layered air defense system technology to contribute to strengthening Croatia’s defense capabilities and protecting its airspace,” and added, “Through close cooperation, we will expand defense industry collaboration between the two countries.”
LIG D&A plans to use this visit as an opportunity to promote exports of air defense systems to the European market, while also seeking opportunities for technological cooperation and joint development with local companies.
