Celltrion posted record-high quarterly sales and operating profit in the third quarter of this year.
Celltrion announced on the 27th that on a consolidated basis for the third quarter of this year, it recorded sales of KRW 1,575.5 billion and operating profit of KRW 525.3 billion. These represent increases of 53.1% and 74.3%, respectively, compared with the same period a year earlier. The operating margin stood at 33.3%, up 4.0 percentage points year-on-year.
The confirmed figures are higher than the preliminary results released on the 12th by KRW 75.5 billion in sales and KRW 15.3 billion in operating profit. Expanded sales of new high-margin product lines and an improved product mix contributed to the earnings growth.
Sales of new product lines in the third quarter were KRW 905.8 billion, up about 74% from the same period a year earlier. New product lines accounted for 67% of total biopharmaceutical sales, 13 percentage points higher than a year earlier and 2 percentage points higher than the previous quarter. Celltrion projected that the share of new product lines in sales would reach 70% by year-end.
By key product, combined third-quarter sales of the autoimmune disease treatments “Remsima SC” and “Zymfentra,” which is sold in the US, came to KRW 254.2 billion, up 19% year-on-year. Cumulative sales for the first three quarters of this year were KRW 710.4 billion, and the company is targeting annual sales of KRW 1 trillion.
“Yuflyma” recorded sales of KRW 183.2 billion, a 27% increase over the same period last year. As of the second quarter of this year, it maintained the No. 1 position in the European market with a share of about 22%.
The cumulative third-quarter sales of the allergy treatment “Omlyclo” were KRW 320.5 billion, a 542.3% increase from KRW 49.9 billion in the same period a year earlier. It is currently sold in 26 European countries and has recorded a market share of over 90% in Spain.
Celltrion launched Omlyclo in the United States earlier this month. As the first omalizumab biosimilar in the local market, it has secured the same full range of indications and interchangeable status as the original drug.
Another biosimilar product, “Aptozma,” recently signed an exclusive supply agreement with a major US healthcare company, expanding its hospital supply network and sales channels.
Along with expanding biosimilar sales, Celltrion plans to continue investing in research and development for new drugs such as antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs).
A Celltrion official said, “The company achieved record-high sales and operating profit while reflecting investments in operating a global direct sales organization and in R&D for new and next-generation products,” adding, “Based on the expansion of sales regions for new product lines, the company will continue its growth trajectory in the fourth quarter.”
