LG AI Research Institute and the National Pension Service (NPS) will jointly develop an artificial intelligence (AI) model specialized in pension fund management.
LG AI Research Institute announced on the 11th that it had signed a business agreement with the National Pension Service at its headquarters in Magok, Seoul, to this effect. The signing ceremony was attended by Kang Chang-nam, Head of the Support Division at the NPS Fund Management Headquarters, and Lee Hwa-young, Head of Business Development at LG AI Research Institute, among others.
Under the agreement, the two institutions plan to develop an AI model specialized for fund management operations by utilizing LG AI Research Institute’s financial AI agent “EXAONE Business Intelligence (EXAONE BI).” The model will combine macroeconomic indicators, news and research materials, and other unstructured market information with data held by the National Pension Service.
The first collaboration project is an “AI-based foreign exchange rate analysis service” that analyzes exchange rate fluctuations. Through this, the National Pension Service plans to introduce AI into its investment research and decision-making processes to verify its applicability, and in the long term expand AI use cases in fund management operations.
This is not the first collaboration between the two institutions. At the International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML) 2026 held at COEX in Seoul this July, LG AI Research Institute presented the results of a pilot data-building project conducted with the National Pension Service. In this pilot project, AI automatically generated more than 10,000 pieces of professional data per day.
Kang, Head of the Support Division, said, “AI is changing the paradigm across industries, and the Fund Management Headquarters, which is responsible for the future of the public, will also keep pace with this change by enhancing the professionalism and efficiency of operations through AI.”
Lee, Head of Business Development, said, “The technological capabilities of LG AI Research Institute’s finance-specialized AI have already been recognized by many global investors,” adding, “We will create a leading best-practice case for AI utilization in the public sector.”
Meanwhile, EXAONE BI is a financial AI service that analyzes about 8,000 listed stocks in Korea and the United States every day and provides prediction scores and analytical commentary. It is currently in use at London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), Koscom, and Kiwoom Securities, among others.
