Daewoong Pharmaceutical announced on the 4th that Inje University Busan Paik Hospital is expanding its smart ward operations utilizing the artificial intelligence (AI)-based bed monitoring system “thynC.” Busan Paik Hospital is the first among tertiary general hospitals in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions to introduce thynC.
Busan Paik Hospital introduced thynC in May, focusing on the Departments of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Cardiology, Neurosurgery, and Otorhinolaryngology, and is currently operating it in 58 beds. In the second half of the year, the hospital plans to expand the application to 14 wards, covering a total of 113 beds.
ThynC is a system that continuously measures key vital signs such as electrocardiogram (ECG), oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, and pulse rate via wearable medical devices worn by patients, and enables medical staff to check patients’ conditions through a centralized monitoring system. It is used to continuously track changes in vital signs and detect abnormal signs at an early stage.
At Busan Paik Hospital, thynC captured a case in which the heart rate of a patient in his 60s with no prior history of heart disease suddenly increased to 160 beats per minute. Subsequent emergency tests confirmed findings consistent with atrial fibrillation, and the medical staff initiated pharmacological treatment. Based on such operational experience, Busan Paik Hospital decided to further expand the wards where thynC is applied.
Daewoong Pharmaceutical and Sears Technology also opened a permanent thynC exhibition hall on the 26th of last month in the patient and guardian lounge on the 1st floor of Im Jae-gwan Building at Busan Paik Hospital.
The exhibition hall showcases wearable medical devices actually used by inpatients, the system configuration of thynC, and its utilization methods. It was set up so that patients and guardians can directly examine the devices to be used during hospitalization and the operation methods of the smart ward.
Lee Chang-jae, CEO of Daewoong Pharmaceutical, said, “We have established a communication channel where patients and guardians can directly experience a new medical environment,” adding, “We will continue to expand the deployment of AI-based medical technologies, including thynC, in clinical settings.”
