Daewoong Pharmaceutical announced on the 4th that a delegation from the pharmaceutical division of Indonesia’s National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM) visited its Magok Research Center in Seoul.

The BPOM delegation visited Daewoong Pharmaceutical’s Magok Research Center on the 28th of last month to review the current status of research and development of new drugs and biopharmaceuticals and the research infrastructure, and discussed cooperation measures in regulatory procedures such as product development, approval, and clinical development in Indonesia.

The Magok Research Center, with an area of about 15,000 pyeong and a scale of three underground floors and nine above-ground floors, can accommodate more than 1,000 researchers. Daewoong Pharmaceutical has consolidated its new drug and biopharmaceutical research functions and related infrastructure at this site and is using it as a global research and development hub.
This visit was part of the schedule of the BPOM delegation, which came to Korea to attend the “2026 Global Bio Conference (GBC 2026)” and the Asia-Pacific Network of National Regulatory Authorities laboratories meeting.

Taruna Ikrar, Head of BPOM, participated online in GBC 2026 and emphasized the need for a science-based regulatory system to respond to technological changes in biopharmaceuticals. He explained that regulatory convergence and trust-building among national regulatory authorities can enhance the efficiency of regulatory procedures while maintaining standards of safety, quality, and efficacy.

In December last year, BPOM was designated by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a WHO-Listed Authority (WLA) in the field of vaccines. Head Taruna also mentioned the need to develop new testing and evaluation methods, such as in vitro test methods, that comply with the “3Rs” principle of replacement, reduction, and refinement.

For more than 20 years, Daewoong Pharmaceutical has been engaged in not only product sales in Indonesia but also local production, research and development, and talent cultivation. It is conducting research in the fields of cell therapy and advanced biopharmaceuticals with local research institutions and is also promoting the expansion of local research and production capabilities.

Rita Endang, senior pharmaceutical adviser directly under the BPOM Commissioner, said, “By visiting Daewoong Pharmaceutical’s new R&D center in person, we confirmed how it is strengthening its research and development capabilities in the fields of new drugs and biopharmaceuticals,” and added, “We will continue constructive regulatory communication with pharmaceutical companies that invest in Indonesia and carry out research and development activities.”

Lee So-yoon, head of the Regulatory Affairs and Patent Center at Daewoong Pharmaceutical, said, “We introduced to the BPOM delegation our research and development capabilities in global new drugs and biopharmaceuticals, as well as our localization strategy in Indonesia,” and added, “We will continue to cooperate with regulatory authorities in global markets to expand new drug development and local business.”

Daewoong Pharmaceutical previously participated in the government’s “Public-Private Joint Support Delegation for Entry into Indonesia.”
