In Seoul’s Gangnam Tower Palace, residents will soon be able to encounter a “four-legged” robot security guard patrolling the complex.

On the 20th, LG CNS announced that it will test a quadruped security robot (photo) for the next two months in cooperation with Tower PMC, the Tower Palace management company, and then begin actual operations in the fourth quarter (October–December). The robot, which has wheels attached to the ends of its four legs, is approximately 57 cm tall and weighs about 35 kg. It will patrol walkways and underground parking lots to detect suspicious individuals, fires, and abnormal situations such as overheating at electric vehicle charging stations, and will notify the management office.

The role of robots assisting humans in apartment management is expanding. Last month, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport revised relevant regulations to allow the introduction of “parking robots” that lift vehicles and automatically move them to vacant spaces in general parking facilities. Hyundai Motor Group plans to begin pilot operation of its self-developed flat-type parking robot next month at an apartment complex in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province.
