LG CNS is introducing quadruped security robots at premium residential-commercial complexes.
LG CNS announced on the 20th that it signed a business agreement on the 19th at its headquarters in LG Science Park in Magok, Seoul, with TowerPMC, a company specializing in the management of premium residential facilities, to build a “security robot solution service.”
TowerPMC is a comprehensive apartment management company that manages leading premium residential complexes in Korea, including Tower Palace, which it began managing in 2002, as well as Hannam The Hill, Acro Seoul Forest, and Raemian One Bailey. It currently manages about 100 high-end residential facilities.
Under this agreement, the two companies will conduct technological verification over about two months for the introduction of security robots within the Tower Palace complex in Gangnam, Seoul. Full-scale operation is scheduled to begin within the fourth quarter.
LG CNS plans to train quadruped robots with various on-site data so that they can perform security duties in the actual residential environment of Tower Palace, including data on spaces and driving routes within the complex and abnormal situations such as falls and fires.
Based on the learned data, the robots will autonomously patrol common areas and underground parking lots. When they detect suspicious behavior, or abnormal situations such as excessive heat from electric vehicles or charging facilities, they will send an alarm to the management office. In particular, managers can communicate with the robots in real time via the two-way voice communication function installed on the robots, enabling them to grasp the situation in more detail and decide appropriate follow-up measures.
LG CNS will utilize its RX (Robotics Transformation) platform “PhysicalWorks” for the robots’ on-site data training and operation. The learning platform “PhysicalWorks Forge” will be used to train the robots with on-site data, while the integrated control platform “PhysicalWorks Baton” will be used to manage and operate the robots’ task execution.
LG CNS also plans to build an autonomous collaboration system linked to various service robots going forward. For example, if a security robot detects garbage within the complex, it will request a cleaning robot to handle the task, enabling robots to autonomously carry out a variety of facility management operations through collaboration among heterogeneous robots.
Myeong Chang-guk, Executive Director in charge of the Smart Logistics Center and Robotics Business at LG CNS, said, “This collaboration is a meaningful case in which physical AI technology creates customer value in an actual residential environment,” adding, “Based on PhysicalWorks, LG CNS will continue to expand AI robot services in which various robots perform real-world tasks and collaborate with one another.”
Meanwhile, PhysicalWorks, LG CNS’s RX platform unveiled in May, is an end-to-end (E2E) solution that manages the entire lifecycle of robots—from learning and verification to on-site operation and control—through a single integrated platform. It aims to shorten the deployment period of industrial robots on site from several months to one to two months. It is evaluated as the first case in which a domestic company has launched, under its own brand, a platform that covers the entire process of robot learning and operation.
PhysicalWorks largely consists of two platforms, Forge and Baton. Forge was developed with the aim of training and honing robots to a level where they can be deployed in actual field operations. It handles the entire process in one place, from data collection for robot learning and robot verification to on-site application. Baton is a platform that issues tasks to and provides integrated control and monitoring of various types of robots, including bipedal, quadruped, and wheeled robots. Its key feature is enabling manufacturers to operate robots from different vendors and in various form factors within a single system.
