Samsung SDS Consortium has been finally selected as the private-sector operator for the government-led “National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Computing Center” construction project.

On the 11th, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it had confirmed the Samsung SDS Consortium as the private participant in the National AI Computing Center construction project, which is the core infrastructure of the “AI Highway” currently being promoted by the government. The consortium includes Samsung SDS as the lead company, as well as Naver Cloud, Samsung C&T, Kakao, Samsung Electronics, Klush, KT, Jeollanam-do Province, and Southwest Coast Enterprise City Development. On the same day, the ministry signed an implementation agreement to finalize the operator and project plan, as well as a shareholders’ agreement for capital contributions and the establishment and operation of a special purpose company (SPC).

The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Samsung SDS Consortium plan to establish a public-private joint SPC within the second quarter of this year and begin construction of the center in the third quarter. The total project cost is KRW 2.5 trillion, and the goal is to build a center equipped with 15,000 units of advanced AI semiconductors by 2028.

After the center is built, the Ministry of Science and ICT plans to provide high-performance AI computing resources at competitive rates. In particular, it plans to offer additional fee discounts and usage vouchers to small and medium-sized enterprises, startups, academia, and research institutions.
