Jeonju City in North Jeolla Province announced on the 23rd that it has signed a “Business Agreement for the Establishment and Operation of the Jeonbuk AI Data Center” with the Jeonbuk AI Data Center (JBAIDC).

Under the agreement, the special purpose company (SPC) JBAIDC will invest a total of KRW 300.7 billion to build an AI data center with a power receiving capacity of 9.8MW on a 11,599㎡ site in Palbok-dong, Deokjin-gu, Jeonju. Completion is targeted for 2027.

JBAIDC will be fully responsible for the construction and operation of the data center. Jeonju City will actively support the project so that administrative procedures such as permits and approvals can be carried out swiftly. Major consortium participants in this project include KT Jeonnam-Jeonbuk Regional Headquarters and Microsoft Korea.

Jeonju City expects that once the data center becomes fully operational, it will play a key role in forming the regional AI ecosystem. The city also anticipates that innovation in the digital economy of the Jeonbuk region and the creation of a new digital ecosystem will contribute to the creation of quality jobs and revitalization of the economy.

Jeonju City and JBAIDC plan to identify and promote various cooperative projects to build an industrial ecosystem based on data.

An official from Jeonju City said, “The construction of this data center will serve as a stepping stone for Jeonju to emerge as a hub of the AI data industry,” adding, “We will actively support its successful establishment, given the expected gains in data management competitiveness and the resulting economic ripple effects.”
