HD Hyundai is partnering with German industrial software company Siemens to drive the digital transformation of the U.S. shipbuilding industry. This initiative is part of the Korea-U.S. shipbuilding cooperation project, known as the 'MASGA Project.'

HD Hyundai announced on the 2nd that it signed a 'Strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Modernization and Enhancement of Technological Competitiveness in the U.S. Shipbuilding Industry' with Siemens at the Lahan Select Hotel in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk, where the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) event was held at the end of last month. Through this agreement, the two companies plan to explore ways to improve design quality, minimize process risks, and reduce costs for U.S. shipyards.

A representative example is the digitalization of production processes using HD Hyundai's shipbuilding expertise and Siemens' digital twin technology. Digital twin technology replicates the real factory environment in a three-dimensional virtual space to optimize and automate production processes. HD Hyundai plans to maximize efficiency by promoting the automation of block assembly and installation processes through this technology.

A program to train specialized shipbuilding personnel in the U.S. will also be pursued. Siemens' 30 educational facilities across the U.S. will serve as bases for this initiative. HD Hyundai intends to dispatch shipbuilding education specialists to these locations to provide practical training. Additionally, based on HD Hyundai's existing industry-academia partnerships with major U.S. universities, the two companies plan to develop specialized educational programs in engineering, digital design, and process automation. An HD Hyundai representative stated, "The key to the MASGA Project is enhancing efficiency through digitalization and automation," adding, "This agreement will be a turning point in strengthening the competitiveness of the U.S. shipbuilding industry."
