NVIDIA, an artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor company, is reportedly set to strengthen its cooperative relationship by supplying semiconductors on a large scale to South Korean companies, including Hyundai Motor Company.

Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA (pictured), stated at the NVIDIA Developer Conference (GTC) held in Washington, D.C., on the 28th (local time), “All companies in Korea are my friends and good partners,” adding, “There will be an announcement that will make the Korean people and U.S. President Donald Trump very happy.” CEO Huang mentioned South Korean companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK Group, saying, “(The announcement) will have to wait a few more days.”

According to business circles, the announcement is expected to involve strengthening the private semiconductor alliance between the U.S. and South Korea, including supplying semiconductors to Hyundai Motor. An industry insider stated, “It is understood that discussions are underway for new supply contracts between NVIDIA and Korean companies.”

As CEO Huang is scheduled to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, on the 31st, it is anticipated that a specific announcement will be made at the event. If Hyundai Motor partners with NVIDIA, it is analyzed that the company could accelerate its progress in the autonomous driving and robotics industries. There is also a possibility that collaboration plans will be announced, such as NVIDIA supplying its AI semiconductors to domestic companies and sourcing high-bandwidth memory (HBM), DRAM, and NAND flash memory semiconductors from Samsung Electronics or SK Hynix. Previously, foreign media, including Bloomberg News, reported that CEO Huang plans to announce new graphics processing unit (GPU) supply contracts with major domestic companies such as Hyundai Motor and Samsung Electronics during his visit. Bloomberg predicted, “For NVIDIA, which faces difficulties entering the Chinese market, new contracts with Korean companies will help expand its market.”

CEO Huang is scheduled to meet with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong and Hyundai Motor Chairman Chung Eui-sun before attending NVIDIA’s GeForce Korea launch 25th anniversary event at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on the 30th. On the 31st, he plans to deliver a special speech at the APEC CEO Summit in Gyeongju.
