As solutions related to AI technology flood the market, companies are shifting from digital transformation (DX) to AI transformation (AX). For public institutions and the financial sector, digitizing vast unstructured documents accumulated over decades and applying AI technology has emerged as a key task. Amidst this, a startup offering intelligent image, document, and data processing solutions based on generative AI technology is gaining attention. This is GMISSION Co., Ltd. CEO Han Jun-seop shared insights on the company's growth strategy and overseas expansion.



Applying AI technology to solve customer problems and advancing solutions

Originally a general service provider, GMISSION transformed into a specialized AI solutions company. Based on field experience of connecting the robust stability of analog with digital innovation through AI, it develops generative AI-based industry-optimized solutions emphasizing security and convenience.

CEO Han stated, “AI has brought emergent innovation to the world. As I learned about AI, my interest grew. Despite majoring in business administration, I graduated from Yonsei University's Graduate School of Engineering to study AI. Just as futurist Alvin Toffler predicted the 'Third Wave' moving from agricultural to industrial to information societies, the pace of change due to AI seemed faster than we thought as I studied more.”

Working at GMISSION, CEO Han foresaw in 2017 that AI innovation would lead to positive changes in companies and accumulated knowledge. He then acquired shares in GMISSION in 2019 and assumed the role of CEO in January 2020, transitioning the business to an AI-specialized company.

From the early stages, GMISSION actively adopted AI technology, achieving meaningful results such as developing facial recognition and vehicle detection technologies through CCTV-based video analysis in collaboration with national institutions. Through continuous research and development and government projects, GMISSION secured its unique technological capabilities. It completed PCT (international application) for a system and method providing customized content services using video information, with 9 patents, 4 trademarks, and 3 copyrights as representative achievements.

CEO Han noted, “As a startup, hiring specialized personnel and conducting research and development was not easy. GMISSION's clients ranged from financial and public institutions to large corporations, and we responded with full force to their highest-level demands. Consequently, while solving the requirements of about 300 clients, GMISSION's technology rapidly advanced.”

Securing core competitiveness with unstructured document processing technology

Focusing on AI-based data processing technology, GMISSION targets public institutions, local governments, financial institutions, and large corporations as its main markets. Its flagship solutions include ▲AI-based web fax solution AI Fax ▲Intelligent data processing solution Retriever (RETRIEVER) ▲Intelligent document processing solution Dachshund (DXHUND) ▲Intelligent press release generation platform Bodocolli (tentative name) ▲Video analysis solution Dexma (DEXMA) actively commercialized from government R&D.



CEO Han explained, “When considering corporate work, it ultimately starts and ends with 'data.' Insights are gained through data analysis. Data accumulates as unstructured documents. Even now, numerous data move in document form between departments and companies. GMISSION's AI Fax is utilized throughout the entire work process using these document data,” adding, “In the generative AI era, we determined that fax is the optimal service to apply technology for understanding, summarizing, and generating documents. Thus, AI Fax became GMISSION's main product.”

For GMISSION's AI Fax solution, AI OCR (Optical Character Recognition) functionality is applied, not only sending faxes but also automatically analyzing and processing text and images within documents to maximize efficiency. Since fax is globally used, it naturally has high competitiveness for overseas expansion. Recently, GMISSION developed the Bodocolli solution to assist public institutions in securing journalism and generating departmental press releases, currently being tested at Seoul's Gangnam District Office.

Moreover, following the release of OpenAI's ChatGPT in the U.S., as the generative AI craze intensifies, many companies have adopted AI, but often get stuck at the stage of converting internal unstructured documents into digital assets. GMISSION secured growth engines by targeting this niche market with differentiated technology. CEO Han emphasized that GMISSION's core competitiveness lies in 'unstructured document processing technology.'

Expanding AI Fax technology, GMISSION developed various solutions. It secured technology to extract text from unstructured documents using its deep learning-based AI OCR solution and natural language processing algorithms, building datasets for AI model training. As a result, it rapidly grew by accumulating success cases of unstructured document processing in the public and financial sectors.



CEO Han pointed out, “In a situation where most corporate work is mediated by documents, converting unstructured documents into digital assets has emerged as a key task for AI adoption.” He continued, “To combine AI with a company's legacy environment as a customized solution, we built a foundation model. By providing optimal solutions, including fine-tuning sLM models based on client internal data, we achieved rapid growth,” adding, “Combining information, communication, and AI with the recently popular ESG in a square business model ensures safety and positively impacts overseas expansion. The solution names, reminiscent of dog breeds, were also made easy to understand with overseas expansion in mind.”

GMISSION actively targets the vertical AI market specialized for each industry. It is developing services to easily build sLM models based on its AI document extraction technology for unstructured documents in specialized fields such as public, finance, law, and medicine. It plans to pioneer new markets by launching a contract analysis solution that compares key items and seals in various forms of contracts, operation instructions, and orders.

People are the most important in management… Enhancing employee welfare

Starting with 10 employees, GMISSION now works with about 50 people. It shows remarkable growth, aiming for KRW 10 billion in revenue this year from KRW 6.55 billion in 2024, just five years after its founding.

CEO Han emphasized, “The growth of a company ultimately comes down to people,” highlighting the importance of both employees and clients. He added, “Entrepreneurs are connected with various stakeholders like investors, clients, and employees. Without trust, a company's sustainability is threatened,” noting, “While conducting various projects, GMISSION walks the path of building trust with clients, even if it may result in immediate losses.”



Particularly, GMISSION pays attention to employee welfare. CEO Han stated, “Employees must grow happily for that to manifest externally. At the end of the year, we hold the 'GMISSION Awards' to reward them clearly. Employees are enthusiastic about their work, which is gratifying.”

GMISSION is also proactive in strengthening employee capabilities. It actively supports AI tools necessary for work, operates internal patent and education programs, and encourages employee growth. It also runs an internal employee welfare corporation. CEO Han remarked, “There have been many challenging collaborative projects, but I believe we could accomplish them because of the dedicated employees,” adding, “Employees are the most important, so we strive to provide many benefits. Each employee becoming stronger allows the organization to grow quickly.”

Overseas expansion in full swing following BPO policy

To expand its overseas business, GMISSION is developing SaaS (Software as a Service) based solutions and conducting local market research. Starting with Canada and the U.S., it signed MOUs with software channel partners in Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Japan. In the second half of this year, it will participate in the '2025 Japan IT Week Autumn,' embarking on full-scale local expansion.

CEO Han stated, “I believe the method of entry is important for pioneering overseas markets. GMISSION plans to expand overseas with a Business Partner Ownership (BPO) policy. Meeting local business partners who can strategically sell GMISSION's AI solutions tailored to each country is crucial. With the current high interest in K-content, opportunities are more open than ever.”

Additionally, GMISSION is highly interested in the medical and legal fields. CEO Han noted, “Like public institutions and the financial sector, the legal and medical fields urgently need AX transformation,” adding, “70% of all U.S. medical institutions use fax for patient information transmission because fax is perceived as a safe choice for transmitting medical information.” He continued, “In the legal field, documents exchanged via fax are recognized as written records with the same effect as the original. However, in terms of AX innovation, it has not yet grown to the scale of finance or public institutions. GMISSION will expand the market through its generative AI technology and customer-tailored sales.”



Recently, GMISSION was selected as one of the 'Innovation Premier 1000' companies, a national strategic business promoted by the government. CEO Han stated, “GMISSION redefined the AX innovation of AI Fax solutions from a simple transmission and reception tool to an integrated platform for intelligent document processing,” adding, “The part where traditional legacy industries were innovated by combining AI transformation technology and generative AI technology seems to have penetrated the core of the national strategic business. We will create AX innovations for unstructured documents in public and financial institutions in the future.”

Finally, CEO Han emphasized, “GMISSION's goal is to grow into a fully integrated data AI platform company with the best frontier AI technology,” aiming for KRW 100 billion in revenue by 2030.

Meanwhile, GMISSION participated in the global corporate collaboration program organized by SeoulTech. Regarding this, CEO Han expressed satisfaction, stating, “Thanks to the global corporate collaboration program, we were able to collaborate with Oracle. This provided an opportunity to introduce our solutions into SaaS services,” adding, “The various support programs, including mentoring and networking with overseas experts, were also helpful.”
