“Connecting ‘Pangyo’ and ‘Shanghai’.”

Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, is leading a delegation to China from the 22nd to the 27th for a 5-night, 6-day schedule, and is pushing a strong 'AI drive' in Shanghai.

China, along with the United States, is a major hub for AI technology. In China, Shanghai stands as a representative city for IT. On the 25th, Kim Dong-yeon visited the Shanghai branch of Tencent Cloud, the largest internet company in China, accompanied by major companies from the 'Pangyo Cluster' representing various fields of Gyeonggi Province's AI industry.

Governor Kim stated, “It is significant that AI companies from Gyeonggi Province have the opportunity to exchange and cooperate with Tencent Cloud, the largest AI company in China, in Shanghai,” and added, “We will devise ways to connect companies that could not accompany us to the Tencent Cloud visit.”


● Tencent, the only 'KRW 1,000 trillion club' in China

For over 1.4 billion Chinese people, it is hard to imagine daily life without Tencent. The core businesses include the 'Weixin' service, China's 'national messenger,' the 'QQ Messenger' service, and the payment service 'Weixin Pay.' People communicate via Weixin, make payments with Weixin Pay, and play Tencent's games. Simply put, it is akin to combining the main businesses of Google, Kakao, and Netflix.

Tencent, with branches in 35 countries worldwide, has a market capitalization of a staggering USD 763.9 billion, which exceeds KRW 1,000 trillion. It ranks approximately 14th globally but is undoubtedly the number one company in China. Tencent is also the second-largest shareholder of Kakao in Korea. Tencent Cloud is pursuing an 'AI IN ALL' (AIA) strategy, applying AI across all business sectors.


● Successful individual meetings with companies

The companies accompanying Governor Kim to Tencent Cloud included NHN Cloud, which Chinese AI companies wish to collaborate with, Megazone Cloud, Hancom, AI Works, Hyperknowledge, and Initech, represented by their CEOs, vice presidents, or CTOs.

Tencent Cloud provided detailed information on its business status, including the AIA strategy, to Governor Kim and the Korean business representatives. There were questions and answers regarding technical information between the Korean business representatives and Tencent Cloud, and individual meetings were also held. Governor Kim's visit served as a bridge between Korean companies and Tencent Cloud.

● Kim Dong-yeon's AI drive

Prior to visiting Shanghai, Governor Kim also established a network between the Gyeonggi Provincial Institute of Economics and Science Promotion and the Liangjiang New Area in Chongqing through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for advanced industry cooperation. Gyeonggi Province plans to establish a specific roadmap for entering the Chinese AI market, which has a population of 1.4 billion.

Governor Kim stated, “The newly launched government aims to become one of the top three AI powers,” and added, “Gyeonggi Province, which established the first 'AI State' in Korea, will now lead the way to becoming an AI powerhouse.”
