A technology that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to select, from among numerous neoantigen candidates found in cancer cells, those targets most likely to trigger an actual response and attack by a patient’s immune cells has received a decision for patent registration in the United States.
The technology is designed to identify effective targets tailored to the characteristics of each individual’s cancer and is expected to be utilized in the development of personalized cancer vaccines.
On the 22nd, NeogenLogic, a subsidiary of SCL Science, announced that its U.S. patent entitled “Method for Predicting T Cell Activity against Peptide-MHC and Analysis Apparatus” had been granted a decision for registration.
This technology identifies information on MHC and cancer-cell neoantigens from the patient’s genetic data and then analyzes how the amino acid sequences of the two proteins interact with T cells. Based on this, it predicts the likelihood that interferon-gamma, a key indicator of immune response, will be secreted above a certain level.
A NeogenLogic representative explained that the core of personalized cancer vaccine development lies in accurately selecting, from the many candidates identified in cancer cells, those targets that can actually activate the patient’s immune cells.
The company expects that by using this technology, it will be able to increase the likelihood of an immune response for individual targets while also incorporating more targets into an mRNA vaccine of the same size.
With the U.S. patent registration decision, NeogenLogic has secured a foundation for securing rights to its neoantigen prediction technology in the U.S. market. The company plans to enhance its differentiation and negotiating power in future joint development, technology transfer, and research collaboration with global pharmaceutical and biotech companies.
A NeogenLogic representative stated, “Based on our accumulated patent portfolio, we will continue to enhance the business value of our personalized cancer vaccine platform.”
SCL Science and NeogenLogic plan to hold a corporate briefing session on the 29th regarding their plans to enter clinical trials for cancer vaccines. The session will provide information on the cancer vaccine clinical entry plan, the progress of research and development, and changes in business organization and research implementation systems.
