Samsung Electronics is set to fully accelerate its push into the advanced industrial HVAC market, including AI data centers, by constructing a large-scale heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment production line at its Gwangju Plant in the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City. The move is also expected to further speed up Samsung Electronics’ investments in regional areas.

On the 21st, Samsung Electronics announced that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for FläktGroup’s HVAC production line at the Gwangju Plant. Samsung Electronics will invest about KRW 240 billion in the plant’s 3rd Campus to build a new production line with a total floor area of 21,800㎡ (approximately 6,600 pyeong). Mass production is scheduled to begin in early 2028. This line will be the 15th global production base of FläktGroup, a German HVAC specialist acquired by Samsung Electronics last year. It will serve as a key hub to comprehensively respond to HVAC demand from AI data centers, advanced manufacturing facilities such as semiconductor and battery plants, and large commercial facilities, mainly in Korea and the East Asia region.

The new line will focus on producing core cooling and central HVAC equipment. Key products will include coolant distribution units (CDU), fan wall units (FWU), computer room air handling units (CRAH), and air handling units (AHU) for large buildings.

Through the establishment of this production line, Samsung Electronics plans to strengthen its global HVAC equipment manufacturing capabilities and respond to the surging demand for cooling solutions for AI data centers. The company will also actively work to revitalize the local economy. From groundbreaking to completion and stabilization of mass production, it will enforce thorough safety management while proactively pursuing the recruitment and development of outstanding local talent and shared growth with partner companies.

Samsung Electronics recently announced that, in line with the government’s “three mega projects,” it will invest KRW 625 trillion in regional areas alone. The investment in the Gwangju Plant is also part of this regional balanced development initiative. Roh Tae-moon, President and Head of Samsung Electronics’ Device eXperience (DX) Division, who attended the event, said, “The groundbreaking of this new FläktGroup production line will become another milestone for the leap of our HVAC business, a core growth engine of the company,” adding, “Going forward, we plan to foster the Gwangju Plant as an advanced manufacturing hub that produces both AI home appliances and next-generation HVAC solutions.”
