Domestic shipbuilders are heading to the world’s largest energy exhibition in Thailand to promote their new technologies. Hanwha Ocean will unveil for the first time a model of its independently developed floating data center (FDC), a “data center on the sea.”

According to industry sources on the 13th, Hanwha Ocean and HD Hyundai will participate together in “Gastech 2026,” which will be held in Bangkok, Thailand, from the 14th to the 17th (local time). Now in its 37th year, the exhibition will host more than 1,000 companies from around the world.

Hanwha Ocean will unveil for the first time at this exhibition a model of its independently developed 60MW-class FDC. Using seawater for cooling, the FDC is drawing attention as an alternative to address challenges such as securing land for the construction of onshore data centers. A Hanwha Ocean representative explained the background of the public unveiling, stating that it is “aimed at the surging demand for data centers driven by the expansion of artificial intelligence (AI).”

HD Hyundai will showcase next-generation eco-friendly gas carrier technologies by bringing all its affiliates to this exhibition. Five group companies—HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, HD Hyundai Marine Solution, and HD Hyundai Electric—have set up a joint booth. During the exhibition, HD Hyundai Chairman Chung Ki-sun will personally introduce the technologies to global shipping companies and classification societies.

On display at the booth will be models of next-generation liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, floating LNG production and storage facilities (FSRU), and liquefied carbon dioxide carriers. The FSRU, a “mobile LNG terminal” floating on the sea, is a ship-type facility that receives LNG transported by vessel, stores it, reconverts it into a gaseous state, and supplies it to onshore facilities.
