South Chungcheong Province announced on the 13th that it has attracted investments totaling KRW 1,530.3 billion from 27 companies in cooperation with eight cities and counties in the province. On the 10th, the province signed a joint investment agreement in the main conference room of the provincial government building, attended by Governor Park Soo-hyun, the heads and deputy heads of the eight cities and counties, and representatives of the 27 companies.

Under the agreement, the companies will build new production facilities, expand existing ones, or relocate to a total of 568,672㎡ of land in industrial complexes across the eight cities and counties. Investment will be made broadly in the province’s key industries and future high-tech sectors, including an artificial intelligence (AI) data center, semiconductors, displays, secondary batteries, automobiles, and space and aviation.

The largest investment is an AI data center to be built in the Naepo City High-Tech Industrial Complex in Hongseong. Optimus CDC plans to invest KRW 600 billion in constructing the data center. On a 15,207㎡ site in Pungse-myeon, Cheonan, an automotive electronic components manufacturer will invest KRW 113.5 billion to relocate its plant. Samyoung Soonhwa, a manufacturer of ultra-high-purity hydrogen peroxide, will invest KRW 98.9 billion to expand its plant on an 11,460㎡ site in the Cheonan General Industrial Complex No. 5.

In addition, Duksan Neolux, an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) materials manufacturer, will invest KRW 66.8 billion to build a new plant in the Cheonan Technopark General Industrial Complex, and KD Coros Battery, which handles primary batteries, plans to invest KRW 36.5 billion to expand production facilities on a 17,344㎡ site in the Seonggeo General Industrial Complex in Cheonan. In Seosan, SK On, a manufacturer of lithium secondary batteries and energy storage systems, will invest KRW 58.7 billion to convert part of the electric vehicle battery production line at its existing Seosan plant—two buildings on a 28,000㎡ site—into lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery production facilities for energy storage systems (ESS).

In Asan, automotive gasket manufacturers and others have decided to relocate or newly establish plants. In addition, investments in production facilities for semiconductor vacuum pumps, secondary batteries, food, and auto parts are planned in Asan, Nonsan, Geumsan, and Seocheon.

The province estimates that construction-related activities such as site development and equipment purchases by these companies will generate KRW 1,920 billion in production inducement, KRW 832.1 billion in value-added inducement, and 10,247 jobs. Investment in advanced industries, including the AI data center, is expected to upgrade the province’s industrial structure and provide a foundation for expanding future industrial ecosystems in areas such as artificial intelligence and semiconductors.
