President Lee Jae-myung stated on the 7th (local time), “Over the next five years, the Republic of Korea and France will respectively invest KRW 800 billion and EUR 500 million in the film and video industry,” declaring the launch of the “Lumière Partnership,” an investment cooperation initiative for the film and video sector.

At the inaugural international film and video industry summit “Lumière Summit,” held that day at the Maeght Foundation in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, France, President Lee delivered a keynote speech in his capacity as co-chair alongside French President Emmanuel Macron and made these remarks. President Lee said, “This partnership, proposed by Korea and warmly embraced by France, will not only involve investment to revitalize each country’s film and video industry, but will also lead to joint investment and co-production by the two countries, serving as a solid springboard for local content to advance onto the global stage,” adding, “I hope it will go beyond bilateral relations, expand to the world, and become a light that illuminates a new future for the global film and video industry.”

In his speech that day, President Macron referred to technological changes such as generative artificial intelligence (AI), saying, “We must not fear any of the changes taking place. But we must not be swayed by them either,” and added, “This is precisely why France and Korea sought to host the first international summit on film and video at the leaders’ level.”

At the Lumière Summit, President Lee and President Macron attended in their capacity as heads of state. In addition, 274 participants from 58 countries took part, including culture ministers and officials from international organizations around the world, as well as heads of film and video companies and associations, directors, and actors.

On the same day, President Lee held an official luncheon with President Macron and his wife and chaired a roundtable on film and video. He also held a “Dialogue with Filmmakers” with director Lee Chang-dong and actors Jeon Do-yeon and Sol Kyung-gu, who were invited to the Lumière Summit.
