LG Innotek announced on the 27th that it will supply 5-megapixel high-resolution automotive camera modules for unmanned robotaxis operated by Zoox, the autonomous driving subsidiary of Amazon in the United States.

The cameras to be supplied this time are products that incorporate LG Innotek’s ultra-precise optical design technology accumulated in the mobile module sector, and they play a core role in the robotaxi sensor system. In particular, they are designed to provide different fields of view depending on the mounting position on the vehicle, minimizing blind spots and precisely detecting a full 360 degrees around the vehicle.

Durability has also been enhanced in consideration of the external driving environment of autonomous vehicles. According to the company, the modules operate without performance degradation even when exposed for long periods to harsh weather conditions such as snow and rain and to extreme temperature changes, and they are equipped with waterproof functionality to support stable autonomous driving even under extreme conditions.

Zoox is an autonomous driving company acquired by Amazon in 2020, and it launched an unmanned autonomous ride-hailing service in Las Vegas, United States, in September last year. Having cooperated with Zoox from the early stages of robotaxi development, LG Innotek plans to accelerate the development of its next-generation physical AI components business based on this multi-year supply contract.

Leveraging its technological capability to produce all key autonomous driving sensors, including cameras, LiDAR, and radar, LG Innotek aims to secure market leadership and achieve KRW 2 trillion in autonomous driving sensing revenue by 2030.
