Samsung Electro-Mechanics has signed a supply contract worth approximately KRW 300 billion for multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) for artificial intelligence (AI) servers with a global big tech company. As demand for AI data centers has recently increased, demand for MLCCs, which act as a kind of “dam” by storing electricity and then supplying it stably to semiconductors, is also surging.

On the 23rd, Samsung Electro-Mechanics announced that it had signed a contract worth about KRW 300 billion for AI server MLCCs with a global major company. The contract period is one year, from January to December 2027. As demand for AI data centers soars, the importance of high-performance MLCCs is also growing. This is because a single AI server rack contains 600,000 MLCCs, more than 10 times the number used in a general server. According to market research firm TrendForce, as of the end of last month, Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ BB (book-to-bill) ratio stood at 1.31, meaning demand is about 1.3 times greater than supply. Competitors Murata and Taiyo Yuden of Japan posted ratios of 1.3 and 1.25, respectively.

In June this year, Samsung Electro-Mechanics also signed a supply contract worth KRW 450 billion for AI server MLCCs with a global big tech company. The contract period is the same as this latest agreement, covering one year in 2027. With the latest deal, Samsung Electro-Mechanics has secured a market share of over 40% in the AI server MLCC segment, maintaining its position among the global leaders. Jang Deok-hyun, President of Samsung Electro-Mechanics, said, “This contract is the result of Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ MLCC technology being recognized as a core component of AI infrastructure,” adding, “The company will lead the AI components market by developing next-generation advanced products and establishing a stable supply system.”
