Daewoong Pharmaceutical has introduced an artificial intelligence (AI)-based bedside monitoring system, “thynC,” with an added blood pressure monitoring function at Samsung Medical Center and has begun pilot operation.

On the 20th, Daewoong Pharmaceutical announced that, together with domestic healthcare companies Sears and SkyLabs, it has implemented thynC, which combines the existing smart bedside monitoring system with the ring-type continuous blood pressure monitor “Cart-On,” in the smart ward at Samsung Medical Center. Samsung Medical Center has set up and is operating two wards in its main building as “smart wards,” which serve as a testbed for digital transformation.

When a patient wears Cart-On, an ultra-small wearable device, key vital signs such as electrocardiogram, oxygen saturation, and blood pressure are collected in real time and transmitted to a central monitor. Medical staff can check the transmitted signals on the monitor. The AI, which analyzes the vital signs, alerts medical staff in real time to premonitory symptoms of death, such as cardiac arrest or malignant arrhythmia.

The company expects that the introduction of thynC will simultaneously improve patients’ sleep environment and the work efficiency of nursing staff. Previously, nurses had to repeatedly measure vital signs directly during late-night hours, which was a burden for both nurses and patients. With real-time signal analysis now possible, the system is expected to be used for patients requiring continuous observation, such as those recovering from complex surgeries and high-risk cardiovascular patients.

ThynC is scheduled to be expanded to other wards within Samsung Medical Center. Monitoring systems will be installed in 39 beds in the cardiology ward by the third quarter of this year. Going forward, thynC will also be introduced at 16 tertiary general hospitals nationwide, including Seoul National University Hospital, Asan Medical Center in Seoul, and Busan Paik Hospital. Daewoong Pharmaceutical stated, “Based on thynC, we will build a smart hospital model that provides precise clinical decision-making support for medical staff and the safest possible inpatient environment for patients.”
