LG Energy Solution will supply batteries for Google’s solar power and energy storage system (ESS) project.

Google and Cypress Creek Renewables (CCE), an independent power producer (IPP) specializing in renewable energy, announced on the 14th (local time) that they will push ahead with a large-scale energy infrastructure project called the “Steel River Energy Center.” The project will build solar power generation and battery storage facilities, and the two companies plan to develop capacity of 2.9 gigawatt-hours (GWh) by 2029. Google described it as “the largest solar and ESS project among the company’s global operations.”

The project will use ESS based on U.S.-made solar modules and LG Energy Solution batteries. The supply volume for LG Energy Solution is known to be in the range of several hundred billion KRW in value terms. With this contract, LG Energy Solution has secured another mega-scale energy infrastructure project in North America. Earlier in May this year, the company signed an ESS supply contract worth about KRW 2.4 trillion with DTE Energy, the largest integrated energy company in the state of Michigan, U.S.

LG Energy Solution is actively targeting projects aimed at meeting big tech companies’ AI power demand while expanding its local production base. It is currently producing ESS batteries at four bases in North America: Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee in the United States, and Canada.
