HD Hyundai Marine Solution, an integrated marine solutions company under HD Hyundai, is launching a business collaboration with global private weather information provider “Weathernews.”

HD Hyundai Marine Solution announced on the 10th that it held a signing ceremony for a basic business cooperation agreement at Weathernews’ headquarters in Chiba City, Japan. The ceremony was attended by key officials including Kim Seong-jun, CEO of HD Hyundai Marine Solution, and Ishibashi Tomohiro, CEO of Weathernews.

Under the agreement, HD Hyundai Marine Solution and Weathernews will pursue the initial domestic contract for their combined AI route optimization solution (OSR-OW, Optimum Ship Routeing X OceanWise), joint marketing to global customers, and expanded digital cooperation using vessel data and AI technology.

In particular, the two companies plan to accelerate commercialization through formal contracts, based on domestic pilot operations that demonstrated the AI route optimization combined solution equipped with Weathernews delivers at least 3% fuel savings. HD Hyundai Marine Solution and Weathernews signed a business agreement in January last year and conducted integrated solution linkage tests by combining HD Hyundai Marine Solution’s AI vessel performance model with the Weathernews route platform (SeaNavigator). Through real-world operational demonstrations on vessels of domestic shipping companies up to the first half of this year, they quantitatively proved fuel savings of at least 3%.

The AI route optimization combined solution of HD Hyundai Marine Solution is characterized by its ability to be immediately applied to vessels already using existing services, without the need to install separate equipment or programs. The company expects a high level of customer satisfaction in terms of convenience. HD Hyundai Marine Solution and Weathernews plan to sequentially expand the application of the AI route optimization combined solution to approximately 8,000 existing customer vessels.

Established in June 1986, Weathernews is the world’s largest private weather information company, headquartered in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. It currently provides customized weather information and platforms tailored to industries sensitive to weather conditions—such as aviation, shipping, and distribution—in 21 countries worldwide, helping to reduce business operation risks for enterprises. Recently, it has been expanding into eco-friendly eco-tech businesses that drive route and path optimization based on advanced meteorological data.
