Bugang Tech will develop technology that significantly shortens the design period for water treatment processes by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI).

On the 2nd, Bugang Tech announced that it has been finally selected for the “AI Application Product Rapid Commercialization Support Project” promoted by the Ministry of Environment and the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, and will begin developing a “Multi-Agent AI-Based Water Treatment Process Automatic Design and Optimization System.” A total of KRW 4.3 billion will be invested in this project, including KRW 3.0 billion in government support funds and KRW 1.3 billion in private sector contributions. The planned development period is 18 months.

Bugang Tech will promote the commercialization of AGWD (AI-Based GWD), which integrates AI into the company’s wastewater treatment process automatic design program GWD (Generative Waste water Design). AGWD is a water treatment process automatic design program that combines agent-based AI with GWD patented technology registered by Bugang Tech since 2019 in Korea, the United States, India, China, and Europe (EU).

Ordinarily, considering process calculations and drawing preparation, the design of water treatment facilities usually takes from six months to more than one year. Bugang Tech stated that AGWD, which uses AI, can shorten design work to within a few hours. Design changes can also be reflected immediately without errors. In particular, program development and coding processes that engineers previously carried out manually one by one are expected to shift to a collaborative mode with AI, dramatically increasing overall productivity and work efficiency.

Through this project, Bugang Tech plans not only to automate design based on AGWD but also to link it with construction management (CM) and operation and maintenance (O&M). The company aims to build a “Water AI” platform that connects the entire process of design, construction, and operation. By establishing a virtuous cycle in which data accumulated during operation is fed back into design, Bugang Tech intends to accelerate the digital transformation of the entire water treatment engineering sector.

After commercializing AGWD, Bugang Tech plans to further develop the “Water AI” platform by expanding the scope of automatic design beyond its own technologies to various water treatment technologies. The company aims to create a digital ecosystem involving the government, public institutions, private project operators, and engineering companies. Through this, it seeks to present a new paradigm for water treatment engineering and contribute to environmental improvement in developing countries that lack sanitation and water environment infrastructure. Bugang Tech added that it has strong competitiveness, noting that globally there are very few companies that have introduced AI at the detailed design stage in the global market.
