Samsung Electro-Mechanics announced on the 30th that it has signed a KRW 450 billion supply contract with a global big tech company for multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) for artificial intelligence (AI) servers. The supply period is one year, starting in 2027.

MLCCs are key components that store electricity and then supply it in a stable, metered manner to semiconductors as needed, preventing device malfunction. In particular, AI servers require high-specification products that can maintain stability even under extreme operating conditions—such as temperatures above 105 degrees Celsius, high voltage of 100V, and strong mechanical bending strength—because they generate significant heat due to heavy computational loads. The number of MLCCs installed can reach up to 600,000 units per server rack, 10 times that of a general-purpose server.

Because of the high entry barriers, the AI server MLCC market is oligopolized by a small number of global companies. While Samsung Electro-Mechanics holds a 25% share of the overall MLCC market, it has secured more than 40% in the higher value-added AI server segment.
