Hyundai Motor Group’s global software center 42dot announced on the 21st that it has developed “Gleo AI,” an in-vehicle voice artificial intelligence (AI) agent capable of natural, human-like conversations. Park Min-woo, CEO of 42dot and head of Hyundai Motor Group’s AVP Division (President, pictured), presented a roadmap for Gleo AI, stating, “In the mid to long term, it will be developed into a personalized AI that understands users’ behaviors and preferences and assists with what they need even without being explicitly told.”

Gleo AI is a generative AI developed by 42dot and was first installed in Hyundai’s next-generation infotainment system “Pleyos Connect” in the new Grandeur “The New Grandeur,” which was launched this month. Through Gleo AI, drivers can interact with the vehicle and travel without needing to touch a separate display. Based on a large language model (LLM), it enables natural conversation and recognizes where the speaker is seated in order to execute commands. For example, even if the driver does not specify a seat position and simply says, “Turn on the ventilated seat,” it automatically turns on the ventilated seat for the driver’s seat. It can understand the intent of speech and converse even when sentences are incomplete or spoken in various regional dialects.

42dot emphasized that the system is designed so that various LLMs can be selectively utilized according to the step-by-step purpose of understanding, decision-making, and answer generation. A separate in-vehicle “knowledge agent” has also been built within Gleo AI to provide up-to-date information. This enables Gleo AI to search for the latest information in real time by leveraging both web and proprietary data.

42dot plans to continue advancing Gleo AI through over-the-air (OTA) updates. Park stated, “It will be further enhanced so that it can perform more functions naturally and understand context.”
