HD Hyundai Marine Solution is entering the North American power solutions market for data centers.

HD Hyundai Marine Solution announced on the 18th that it recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with U.S. energy infrastructure developer Aperion Energy Group (AEG) for the maintenance of engines (turbines) used to supply power to data centers. As this is at the MOU stage, the size of the maintenance contract has not yet been determined. AEG focuses on the design, construction, and operation of “standalone power plants” that provide stable power to data centers and industrial facilities.

Under this agreement, HD Hyundai Marine Solution plans to establish a cooperation framework for long-term maintenance and operation of 33 power-generation engines at a data center AEG is building in the state of Texas, United States.

This business agreement follows the power-generation engine supply contract signed on April 22 between HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and AEG. At that time, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries concluded a large-scale engine supply contract with AEG for 33 HiMSEN engines with a capacity of 20 megawatts (MW) each, totaling 684 MW. The contract value amounts to KRW 627.1 billion. In general, supply projects for LNG gas turbines (engines) for power generation are followed by maintenance projects. Ultra-large turbines for power generation are often regarded as having higher profitability in maintenance projects than in the supply of finished products.

Through cooperation with AEG, HD Hyundai Marine Solution intends to promote the proven performance of the HiMSEN engines and its own advanced engine maintenance technologies in the North American market, with the aim of expanding its local market share. In particular, the partnership is based on the premise of concluding long-term service agreements (LTSA) that manage the entire life cycle of the engines, as well as operation and maintenance (O&M) contracts. In line with this, HD Hyundai Marine Solution plans to generate continuous revenue and firmly establish a high value-added service income model.

A representative of HD Hyundai Marine Solution said, “With the rapid growth of the AI industry driving an explosive increase in power demand, the importance of meticulous maintenance services for power-generation engines at data centers is rising,” adding, “Through this cooperation, HD Hyundai Marine Solution will demonstrate its capabilities and secure new demand related to data centers in the North American market.”
