FPT announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with GS Engineering & Construction (GS E&C) for cooperation on data center infrastructure and smart city development in Vietnam.

The agreement was pursued with the aim of responding to Vietnam’s strategy to expand digital infrastructure and its urban development objectives. The signing ceremony was held in Hanoi on the occasion of the Vietnam–Korea Business Forum, and took place in the presence of government officials and senior representatives of major institutions from both countries.

Under the agreement, the two companies plan to jointly promote the development of large-scale data centers in Vietnam. The facilities will be designed to cover hyperscale, colocation and enterprise demand, with a focus on scalability, energy efficiency and the application of advanced cooling technologies.

The scope of cooperation will also be expanded to smart city development. The partners will review ways to enhance the efficiency of urban operations by integrating AI- and IoT-based technologies across a range of areas including digital infrastructure, intelligent transportation, smart energy management, public safety and urban services.

The partnership will be implemented by combining GS E&C’s engineering, design and construction capabilities with FPT’s cloud services, digital platforms and local network. Through this, the companies plan to build a foundation to meet growing demand in Vietnam for cloud services, high-performance computing and AI-related solutions.

Ha Minh Tuan, CEO of FPT Korea, said, “This collaboration reflects the expanding trend of bilateral cooperation between the two countries in technology and infrastructure,” adding, “Based on its AI-centered strategy and talent pool, FPT will contribute to strengthening digital capabilities, technology transfer and expanded cooperation between markets.”

Heo Yoon-hong, CEO of GS E&C, said, “Cooperation with FPT is meaningful in that it supports Vietnam’s digital transformation through data center and smart city development,” and added, “GS E&C will promote project development and execution based on its experience in design, construction and smart city infrastructure solutions, while working in partnership with FPT’s ICT capabilities.”

He continued, “This project is being considered to start at an initial scale of several tens of megawatts and then be expanded in phases in line with market demand,” and added, “Through this cooperation, we plan to ensure it leads to tangible value creation and job creation in both countries.”
