LS ELECTRIC announced on the 6th that its subsidiary LS Power Solution recently signed a contract to supply ultra-high-voltage transformers worth USD 70.26 million (approximately KRW 106.6 billion) with a U.S. energy infrastructure company.

LS Power Solution will supply 345-kilovolt (kV) ultra-high-voltage transformers for the microgrid that will provide power to a big tech data center being built in the central United States. The supply period will run from the fourth quarter of 2027 (October–December) to the first half of 2028 (January–June). A microgrid is a power system that operates independently of the central power grid, producing and consuming electricity autonomously within a specific area.

As power demand surges due to the expansion of data centers driven by artificial intelligence (AI), infrastructure investment aimed at stable and efficient power supply is increasing in North America. Recently, global big tech companies have adopted plans to procure electricity directly through self-built power plants in order to prevent AI infrastructure from driving up electricity bills for the general public. This is why microgrids are attracting attention as a key means for data centers to achieve self-sufficiency in power.

LS ELECTRIC previously signed a contract in September last year to supply distribution solutions worth USD 46 million (approximately KRW 64.1 billion) for a data center microgrid project. The company emphasized that, following this, it has now secured an order to supply ultra-high-voltage transformers through its subsidiary, thereby demonstrating competitiveness across the entire power value chain for data centers. LS Power Solution, acquired by LS ELECTRIC in 2024, is regarded as one of the top five domestic companies supplying ultra-high-voltage transformers to Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO).
