LG Energy Solution announced on the 3rd that it has joined “SDVerse,” an open‑market platform for in‑vehicle software. It is the first battery manufacturer to do so.
SDVerse is a global B2B platform for automotive software established under the initiative of General Motors (GM) of the United States, Magna International of Canada, and Wipro of India. Its key characteristic is an open ecosystem where original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), parts suppliers, and software developers can trade software in a single space.
Through its participation in SDVerse, LG Energy Solution has unveiled five battery software solutions: ▲Battery Platform Software ▲Safety Diagnosis Calibration Tool ▲Onboard FRISM ▲Onboard BLiS ▲Onboard DASH.
The Battery Platform Software is a service that comprehensively analyzes major battery status indicators such as degradation and lifespan. It is characterized by the optimization of LG Energy Solution’s Battery Management System (BMS) technology for the Software‑Defined Vehicle (SDV) environment.
The Safety Diagnosis Calibration Tool is software that supports safety status diagnosis and simulation verification based on battery data. It enables companies to analyze and operate data independently without relying on external parties, thereby reducing the risk of data leakage and strengthening security competitiveness.
Onboard FRISM is algorithm‑based software that diagnoses battery status and the degree of degradation using field data and machine learning, even without cell experiment data. Onboard BLiS is a battery life simulator that numerically predicts battery degradation processes and estimates performance changes under various conditions. Onboard DASH is a life‑management‑focused algorithm that quantitatively analyzes the impact of driving and charging habits on battery degradation to provide long‑term battery usage guidelines.
LG Energy Solution plans to leverage this participation to fully introduce its accumulated battery service and software technologies to the SDV market and strengthen its position as a “total solution provider.”
Based on more than 20 years of BMS development experience and over 10,000 related patents, LG Energy Solution has built competitiveness in the battery software and services business. Under its total battery management solutions brand “B.around,” it currently provides cloud‑ and AI‑based safety diagnosis, degradation analysis, and life prediction solutions, and also operates continuous diagnostic service “B-lifecare” and one‑time evaluation service “B.once.”
In October last year, the company became the first in the battery industry to win a CES Innovation Award in the pure software category with its battery life‑extension technology solution “Better.Re.”
Prashant Gulati, CEO of SDVerse, said, “We are pleased to showcase LG Energy Solution’s advanced battery management software, diagnostic technologies, and SDV‑optimized battery designs on SDVerse,” adding, “The combination of battery expertise and software‑based intelligent systems will help accelerate the development of next‑generation electric vehicles.”
Kim Je‑young, CTO of LG Energy Solution, said, “Through joining SDVerse, we expect to present our leading battery software capabilities to a broader range of customers,” and added, “In line with the upcoming SDV era, we will further reinforce our technological leadership to drive the accelerated growth of the electric vehicle and battery markets.”
