Humax is moving to expand its electric vehicle (EV) charging business in Europe. Its strategy is to differentiate itself from competitors in the local market through UK certifications and next-generation charging technologies.

Earlier this year, Humax launched the “MX7,” a smart charger that supports vehicle-recognition-based V2G functionality, becoming the first non-European company to do so. The product supports ISO 15118-based communication and is characterized by its implementation of technologies for the future commercialization of V2G and V2H.

V2G is a bidirectional charging technology that feeds electricity stored in EV batteries back into the power grid. This effectively transforms EVs into “energy assets.” The industry expects that, as the era of autonomous driving arrives and vehicle idle time increases, the value of V2G utilization will expand further.

In addition, Humax is discussing cooperation measures with UK energy suppliers “Octopus Energy” and “OVO Energy” for linkage with smart energy tariff plans. Specifically, it plans to provide integrated services such as solar power-linked charging and energy tariff optimization.

In particular, the MX7 has obtained certification from the UK government-affiliated Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) and meets local smart charging regulations and cybersecurity standards. The UK applies the most stringent EV charger technology and security standards in Europe, making this certification highly significant in that it secures technological reliability for expansion across the European market.

A Humax representative said, “Technology certifications verified in the UK and cooperation with global energy companies are the key foundation for expanding our business across Europe,” adding, “Based on our charging business, we will gradually extend our scope into the broader energy services sector.”
