InterBattery 2026, held at COEX in Seoul from the 11th to the 13th, has come to a close.

At this year’s exhibition, SK On presented a technology portfolio under the theme “Unlock the Next Energy,” showcasing the expansion of its battery technologies, previously centered on electric vehicles, into various industrial sectors such as ESS and robotics.

The exhibition space was divided into three zones: “Leading Tech,” “Future Tech,” and “Core Tech.”

In the Core Tech zone, high-energy-density LFP (lithium iron phosphate) pouch batteries were introduced as core products for electric vehicles and ESS. SK On is conducting research and development to raise the current energy density level of 350–450 Wh/L to 500 Wh/L.

ESS safety technologies were also unveiled. The centerpiece was a container-type ESS DC block equipped with a preventive and diagnostic system based on Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), a technology that measures the electrochemical state inside the battery to detect signs of abnormalities at an early stage.

Products equipped with SK On batteries also filled the exhibition hall. The Genesis GV60 Magma, fitted with NCM batteries, and Hyundai WIA’s autonomous mobile robot (AMR) were showcased side by side, visually demonstrating the scalability of battery technology from high-performance sports cars to logistics robots on industrial sites.

Four pack solutions in one place… Cooling performance up to three times higher
Another pillar of the exhibition was the Cell-to-Pack (CTP) based integrated package solution. CTP is a structure in which cells are mounted directly into the pack without going through the module stage, reducing the number of components and processes and thereby improving both energy density and cost competitiveness.

SK On showcased four pack solutions in one place: a pouch cell-to-pack, a Large Surface Cooling (LSC) cell-to-pack, a pouch-integrated prismatic pack, and immersion cooling. This was the first time all four were exhibited together. LSC technology places cooling plates on the contact surfaces between cells, enabling up to three times higher cooling performance compared with conventional indirect cooling methods. The prismatic On-vent Cell, which won an InterBattery 2026 Award, was introduced as a technology that enhances design flexibility while maintaining the safety of prismatic batteries.

Hands-on batteries… “R&D Studio” experience zone also well received

Alongside the technology displays, SK On operated a hands-on content zone called “R&D Studio,” where visitors could directly observe battery manufacturing and R&D processes. As a space where complex battery technologies could be visually checked and experienced, it drew strong interest from general visitors.

An SK On official said, “We introduced the achievements of SK On’s expanded battery portfolio across various industrial sectors, including ESS and robotics, beyond electric vehicles,” adding, “We will continue to broaden customer touchpoints with products that offer both price competitiveness and safety.”
