Ten years after his historic match against AlphaGo, the Go artificial intelligence (AI) developed by Google DeepMind, 9-dan professional Lee Sedol has once again faced a Go AI. Although the event focused on building a Go AI model, Lee assessed the generated Go AI, saying it was “more advanced than AlphaGo.”

On the 9th, domestic AI operating system (OS) developer Enhance held an event at the Ara Hall of the Four Seasons Hotel Seoul with Lee to declare the advent of the “era of AI collaboration.” The event took place at the same venue where Lee’s 2016 match against AlphaGo was held, returning there after a decade.

When Lee said, “I would like to create a Go AI aimed at young students,” the Enhance AI OS, acting almost like a project planner, organized and displayed the program’s requirements, screen layout, and constraints based on his remarks. After several stages of research, it developed a Go education AI in about 25 minutes. All processes were executed according to Lee’s voice commands. Lee commented, “It is truly amazing that 10 years after AlphaGo, even a layperson like me can directly create an AI model.”

Lee then proceeded to a brief demonstration match against the Go AI that had just been created. He remarked, “May I take back the move I just played? It was only just created, but its Go skills are so strong that it seems difficult for a human to win.” He added, “In practical terms, it feels far more advanced than AlphaGo, which I faced 10 years ago.”

Enhance was selected in May last year as the only Korean company for the “Startup Fellowship” of defense AI firm Palantir. The event was officially sponsored by Anthropic, Nvidia, and Microsoft, and was simultaneously broadcast live on YouTube.
