OTT services such as Netflix and Disney Plus will be operable by voice without a remote control.

Digital multimedia device specialist Aloys Co., Ltd. (CEO Shin Jeong-gwan) announced that it plans to launch within the first half of the year a product that applies ChatGPT-based artificial intelligence (AI) technology, enabling users to search for and play movies or other content by voice.

Aloys is a specialized company that develops set-top boxes, which are essential devices for using OTT services. It supplies products worldwide under its own brand “FORMULER.”

The new product offers an advanced experience of an “AI TV agent,” in which the TV understands and even converses with the user. Generative AI technology has been applied to remove the inconvenience of entering complex search terms or repeatedly operating the remote control to find desired programs. The device is designed to operate simply by speaking naturally in everyday language, for example, “I’m bored, put on a light action movie.”

The company plans to go beyond content recommendation and playback to enable AI to resolve problems arising from device malfunctions or during program viewing. In cases where special installation settings are required or the video stops while watching, Aloys intends to add functions whereby AI not only provides manuals or guides but also supports immediate resolution through automatic actions such as analyzing the cause of the problem and changing settings.

Aloys has also achieved innovation in operating software. The software “Mytvonline4” installed in the new product is evaluated as an evolution from the previous version, Mytvonline3, by upgrading the UI/UX (user interface/user experience) to maximize user convenience along with AI feature implementation. Mytvonline4 incorporates multiple security solutions to fundamentally block unauthorized software copying or hacking, thereby further strengthening encryption and security systems.

Shin Jeong-gwan, CEO of Aloys, said, “In the domestic market, where telecom operators designate set-top box devices, our company may be somewhat unfamiliar to general consumers, but we are building a stable business structure focused on overseas markets,” adding, “In fact, we generate all of our revenue through our own export brand ‘FORMULER.’”

He went on to say, “This new product featuring AI technology will both enhance convenience for customers worldwide and serve as a springboard for us to expand beyond a TV and set-top box manufacturer into an AI service company.”
