LG CNS is joining forces with artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor company FuriosaAI to target the public-sector AX (AI transformation) market.

LG CNS signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with FuriosaAI at LG Science Park in Magok-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, to “expand cooperation in the AI infrastructure business.” FuriosaAI is an AI semiconductor company that develops neural processing units (NPUs), semiconductors specialized for AI computation. FuriosaAI’s second-generation NPU, “Renegade (RNGD),” is characterized by lower power consumption than graphics processing units (GPUs), which are used for large-scale computation. LG CNS and FuriosaAI are currently participating together as part of the LG AI Research Institute consortium in the government-led “independent AI foundation model” project.

As the first step in the cooperation, LG CNS plans to apply FuriosaAI’s NPU to its self-developed enterprise agentic AI platform, “AgenticWorks.” In addition, the two companies will verify performance optimization technologies for GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) based on NPU. GPUaaS is a service that virtualizes GPUs so that users can access a high-performance computing environment without purchasing physical hardware. The company stated, “By applying NPUs across all stages, including AI training, AI service operation, and inference, we will enhance power efficiency and cost competitiveness.”
