Global Expansion

HyperExcel, Advantech Taiwan Sign MOU to Expand LPU

Dong-A Ilbo | Updated 2026.02.03
AI semiconductor technology company HyperExcel has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Advantech, a Taiwan-based specialist manufacturer of industrial devices and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, for cooperation in AI infrastructure technology. HyperExcel independently designs the LPU (LLM Processing Unit), a high-efficiency AI accelerator optimized for large language model (LLM) inference, and plans to launch “Bertha,” a 4-nanometer process, LPDDR5-based semiconductor, within the first half of this year. Advantech is the No. 1 company in the industrial computer sector, with a global market share of approximately 30%–40% in industrial IoT and embedded boards.

The MOU was signed at HyperExcel’s Seoul headquarters on 2 February and established a foundation for cooperation to discuss technology collaboration in the AI semiconductor sector and to build a mid- to long-term strategic partnership. Going forward, the two companies plan not only to engage in technical exchanges across the entire AI infrastructure technology domain, but also to explore cooperation opportunities based on their respective technical expertise and know-how.

Advantech is building joint fronts with AI startups and semiconductor companies worldwide, including HyperExcel. In December last year, it partnered with DEEPX to introduce modules for edge AI, and it has also formed a strategic partnership with Axelera AI, a European edge AI semiconductor company, to jointly develop AI acceleration modules and cooperate in areas such as industrial automation and robotics. In January last year, it launched an acceleration module with Israel’s Hailo for high-efficiency vision AI applications.

From an ecosystem perspective, Advantech has pledged joint development of edge AI technology with Edge Impulse, an edge AI platform specialist under Qualcomm, and has agreed with Korea’s quantization technology company ENERZAi to jointly develop and deploy edge AI services for Advantech’s industrial software WEDA (WISE-Edge Developer Architecture).

Through the cooperation between HyperExcel and Advantech, the door for domestic AI semiconductor manufacturers to enter the global supply chain is gradually widening. Advantech has already established partnerships with AI semiconductor companies such as Mobilint and DEEPX, and at the end of last year, it advanced to practical commercialization with products such as the EAI-1961, which incorporates the DEEPX DX-M1. For domestic AI semiconductor companies, this expands sales channels, while for Advantech, it is a win-win strategy that enables it to respond to diversified demand.

Kim Joo-young, CEO of HyperExcel, stated, “Through the signing of this MOU with Advantech, HyperExcel will actively discuss global AI infrastructure technology cooperation and develop this into a long-term partnership so that HyperExcel’s AI semiconductor design technology can advance into global markets.”

Miller Chang, President of Advantech’s Embedded IoT Group, also said, “Advantech has continuously expanded AI computing technologies that can be applied to various industrial environments,” adding, “Through cooperation with HyperExcel, which has strengths in AI inference efficiency, we look forward to new cooperation opportunities and synergies centered on AI semiconductor technology going forward.”
