On the 2nd, HUMAX Mobility signed a “Business Agreement for Converting Corporate Taxis to Autonomous Driving” with the Korea National Joint Conference of Taxi Association, the Korean Society of Transportation, Hyundai Motor Company, Kakao Mobility, Autonomoose A to Z, and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance.
The agreement was prepared to pursue sustainable development of the taxi industry in response to the rapidly changing autonomous driving environment. Based on domestic technology and infrastructure, the participating organizations agreed to build an “autonomous driving ecosystem based on taxi licenses” and to cooperate across the board on institutional improvements and research and development. In particular, with the participation of the taxi industry, academia, an automaker, a platform operator, a technology company, an insurer, and an infrastructure operator, this cooperation represents the largest industry–academia–research collaboration for autonomous driving taxis in Korea.
Under the agreement, HUMAX Mobility will support urban hub infrastructure for the stable operation of autonomous taxis. Leveraging its business capabilities in parking (Hi-Parking), charging (HUMAX EV), vehicle management (Kyle23 Jesper), car sharing (TURU Car), taxi (TURU Taxi), and chauffeur service (TURU Daeri), the company will cooperate in establishing integrated hubs where unmanned vehicles can be charged, wait, and undergo maintenance. Through this, it plans to help create an environment in which autonomous taxis can operate reliably 24 hours a day in urban areas.
The parties to the agreement will cooperate in four areas: △ collaboration on autonomous driving demonstration projects △ response to industrial transformation △ research cooperation △ formation and operation of a council.
With this agreement, HUMAX Mobility will incorporate its existing mobility infrastructure operation experience into the autonomous driving ecosystem and, together with the participating organizations, respond to industrial transformation.
Jeong Sung-min, CEO of HUMAX Mobility, stated, “This agreement goes beyond simply introducing technology; its core is to create an ecosystem in which the existing taxi industry and autonomous driving technology can coexist and prosper together,” adding, “HUMAX Mobility will actively cooperate in building this ecosystem based on the infrastructure operation experience accumulated to date.”
