LG Uplus announced on the 20th that it has developed a “Network Open API Platform (Open API Gateway)” together with telecommunications equipment manufacturer Ariatek to revitalize the telecommunications industry ecosystem.

Network Open APIs (mobile number authentication, SIM change information, device location information, device status information, device change information) are technologies that standardize network functions owned by telecommunications operators and make them available for use by external developers and companies. Major telecommunications operators worldwide are actively promoting the commercialization of network open API technologies.

Network Open APIs are delivered externally through a gateway called the “Network Open API Platform.” From the perspective of external developers, the platform enables them to easily adopt verified functions of telecom operators in the form of APIs, thereby reducing the time and cost required for service development.

LG Uplus’ Network Open API Platform provides APIs that enhance personal data and financial security, as well as “QoD (Quality On Demand),” which improves communication quality at the time desired by the user. Through this, banks can compare a customer’s mobile phone location information when withdrawing cash from an ATM to verify identity and prevent financial accidents, and can also strengthen security services by checking whether a cloned USIM was used during identity verification.

Lee Sang-heon, Head of Advanced Development at LG Uplus, said, “Through the development of this Network Open API Platform, we have laid the groundwork for the development of innovative services that can deliver new customer value,” adding, “We will strive to secure key future network technologies needed by customers so that we can help create a brighter and more sustainable world.”

Meanwhile, in 2024 LG Uplus entered into a cooperation agreement with domestic mobile network operators for the development of standard open APIs, and, in collaboration with the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA), the national standardization body, established domestic API standards.
