Food delivery robot introduced at Raemian Leaders One. Samsung C&T
Samsung C&T Corporation’s Engineering & Construction Group (hereinafter Samsung C&T) announced on the 15th that it will begin full-scale expansion of an innovative autonomous delivery robot service that delivers food to residents’ front doors within apartment complexes.
The key feature of this service is that the autonomous delivery robots independently navigate the complex environment of multi-family housing and safely deliver food right to residents’ doorsteps.
Samsung C&T stated that last year it successfully completed a pilot service at the Raemian Leaders One complex in Seocho-gu in cooperation with autonomous robot company Neubility and delivery platform Yogiyo.
Samsung C&T explained that it has resolved technical challenges that had long been cited as the biggest obstacles to robot delivery within apartment complexes, such as automatic opening and closing of common entrance doors and elevator calling and boarding. Through this, it appears to have established a commercial “door-to-door” service system in which robots directly deliver food from outside the complex to each household’s front door.
In a survey conducted during the pilot period of 113 residents who used the service, satisfaction reached as high as 95%. In particular, 99% of respondents agreed on the need for the service, and 74% indicated a willingness to use it even as a paid service, demonstrating strong market potential.
From this year, Samsung C&T will significantly expand the service area. It plans to extend the operating radius from the vicinity of the existing Raemian Leaders One complex to within 1.2 km and increase the number of partner food and beverage outlets to around 130, thereby broadening residents’ choices.
The autonomous delivery robots move at a normal walking speed to ensure pedestrian safety within the complex and are equipped with a security system that allows only the customer who placed the order to pick up the delivered food. This enables intact delivery without concerns about damage or loss. The company also expects a significant reduction in accident risks, noise, and conflicts over outsider access caused by motorcycles and other external delivery vehicles entering the complex.
In addition to food delivery robots, Samsung C&T is promoting the introduction of various robotic technologies in residential spaces. It is currently known to be piloting several robot-based services, including the “Home AI Companion Robot,” a health and safety assistant for seniors, and a luggage delivery robot for underground parking lots.
A Samsung C&T official said, “We are striving to provide a differentiated residential experience through robot services that naturally blend into residents’ daily lives,” adding, “We will continue customer-centric innovation to build an even more convenient residential ecosystem.”
